Port-des-Barques. Habiter une presqu'île périurbaine

Les nouvelles approches par les géographes, architectes et philosophes de la notion d'habiter permettent à un jeune chercheur de proposer un regard original sur un phénomène largement répandu, la périurbanisation. Après l'analyse des paysages, permettant de dégager leurs possibles attraits pour les résidents, sont examinées les différentes phases de l'extension des pavillons dans une commune du Pays Rochefortais, mettant en relief raisons et manières d'habiter, qui renvoient à des phases de l'urbanisation des modes de vie. Dans un site marqué par la richesse des paysages, le caractère paisible de son ambiance et la proximité de Rochefort, anciens et nouveaux habitants, actifs et nombreux retraités, sont conduits à réinventer le quotidien

THE PORT-DES-BARQUES PENINSULA: STUDY OF A ‘ PERI-URBAN’ HABITAT

There are many facets to the notion of habitat. Following a fairly recent approach now shared by most geographers, architects and philosophers, this study of a little township located on the Pays Rochefortais seaside enables a young researcher to propose an original perception of a widespread phenomenon: ‘peri-urbanization’.

Starting from an analysis of the natural landscapes in order to make an assessment of their potential attractiveness as far as the would-be residents are concerned, we are then led on to examine the different phases of housing development extension in relation to the people’s motivation and ways of living in terms of urbanization. On such a particular site, endowed with attractive landscapes, a peaceful atmosphere, and convenient road facilities to get to Rochefort, the older residents as well as the more recent inhabitants, whether retired of still engaged in their jobs, are daily stimulated into re-inventing a new way of life.
